Troubleshooting

What a failure means and how to recover, stage by stage.

• Compilation and top-module errorsThe design will not compile, or the tools cannot find the module named top.
• Simulation failuresThe test ran and a check did not hold, or the run never finished.
• Synthesis failuresThe design simulates and the Synthesize stage rejects it, or produces something unexpected.
• Clock and constraint problemsThe build cannot find the clock, or the clock settings disagree with each other.
• Placement and routing failuresThe build stops in the floorplan, placement or routing phase.
• Timing violationsThe build finished and reports that timing was not met.
• DRC and LVS failuresThe layout was written and a final check reports violations.
